Vanguard Way Marathon and Half
This event follows part of the Vanguard Way national trail, a long-distance route that runs from East Croydon to Newhaven. Races use undulating trails that pass parkland, woodland and open country, including sections through Selsdon Wood Nature Reserve and past historic houses near Coombe.
The full event is an out-and-back route of 13.1 miles each way, following the undulating Vanguard Way section. A half marathon distance of 13.1 miles is also offered. The course rises onto the North Downs where the route reaches about 260 metres above sea level and passes landmarks such as the Nore Hill Chalk Pinnacle. The route crosses the Greenwich Meridian near a commemorative plaque, goes over the M25 on a footbridge and climbs into the wooded Greensand Ridge with views on the edge of Limpsfield. Titsey Place, an 18th century manor house, is near the route.
Organised by 1m2go / 1 Mile Events, the event is UK Athletics affiliated. Participants receive a medal and a goody bag that can include a race tee, mug and buff, plus food and snacks at the finish. The organiser policy states there are no refunds; at the director's discretion an entry may be held for a future event if the event is at least five weeks away.
