Van Metre 5K Run
The Van Metre 5K Run is a community road event in Broadlands, Ashburn, that benefits Children's National Hospital. Established in 1992, the event has raised over $3.5 million for the hospital. The program includes a One Mile Fun Run/Walk alongside the main 5K and corporate team categories.
Race services and features include a USATF certified course, ChronoTrack race timing with disposable B-tags, and special edition participant t-shirts with custom race bibs. Race day activities list an interactive warm up for children, arts and crafts, and face painting. Post-race awards include cash prizes for the overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd place male and female finishers, plus awards for the top two male and female runners in each age group. Additional raffle and door prizes are offered.
Refreshments and snacks are provided by local restaurants and businesses and include bottled water, fresh fruit, granola, muffins, donuts, cupcakes, and a complimentary slice of pizza for attendees. The event accommodates corporate teams, families with strollers, and participants with dogs. Packet pick up is available on April 9 and April 10 at designated local locations, with additional pickup at the event venue on April 11.
