Urban Environmental Challenge 10k
The Urban Environmental Challenge takes place on March 29, 2026 at Van Cortlandt Park, Tortoise and Hare Statue, 251st and Broadway, Bronx, NY 10471. The event is organized as trail and running races within the park.
Distances offered:
- 10K, trail race, runners 14 years and over
- 0.5 Miles, Kids Fun Run, free entry
The 10K course runs off road through natural areas of Van Cortlandt Park. The course is described as hilly and technical, with rugged, off-the-beaten-path trail sections. A portion of race fees supports the Van Cortlandt Park Alliance for trail maintenance and youth programs.
Registration opens 26 January 2026 and closes 29 March 2026. Pre-registration fee for the 10K is $35 and race day entry is $40. Special pricing is available for runners aged 14 to 18 and for Veterans. All registered participants receive a race souvenir.
Prizes for the 10K include a carrot cake for the male and female winners, and muffins for age group winners and for second and third place finishers. Public transportation options include the 1 train to 242nd Street, about a 500 yard walk, and Metro-North Hudson Line to Marble Hill, with about 1.5 miles to the start.
