Event overview
The Umstead Trail Marathon is a trail marathon held at William B. Umstead State Park in Raleigh, NC on March 7, 2026. The course covers 26.2 miles through the park's roughly 5,000-acre woodland area. Event proceeds benefit the preservation and improvement of the park and support the Carolina Godiva Track Club.
Course and race details
The course surface is a mix of 25% technical single-track trails and 75% fine gravel bridle paths, with about 2,400 feet of total elevation gain. Aid stations offering hydration and fuel are placed approximately every 2–4 miles and are staffed by volunteers; course monitors are present along the route. The race enforces a 6-hour cutoff time (about a 14-minute per mile pace). The event is cupless, so participants must carry their own drinking vessel.
Amenities and awards
Packet pickup is available the day before and on race morning. A pre-race briefing is held before the start. Finishers receive a commemorative race t-shirt and a finisher's pint glass award. The top 15 overall male and female finishers receive handcrafted, locally sourced awards. A post-race meal is provided at the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
