About the race
Ultra-Trail Drakensberg is a trail running festival held in the southern Drakensberg that uses routes through Lesotho and South Africa. The event incorporates or skirts features such as Sani Pass, Twelve Apostles, Khanti Ridge, Hodgson’s Peaks, Garden Castle, Rhino Peak and Langalibalele’s Pass. Four of the five courses use sections of the Giant's Cup Trail in the southern part of the Maloti-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site. The park holds World Heritage status for its outstanding natural landscapes and for its cultural value, including San rock art.
The event logo references the local rock art. The race program includes named events across multiple distances, including UTD100, described as a 100 km race, GCU65 linked to the Giant's Cup Trail and presented as a single-run version of a five-day hiking trail, SDR36 described as a sundowner run, DRJ25 referred to as a 25 km event, and the UTD Miler noted for pristine trail running through Lesotho and South Africa.
