Kent Downs 50 Ultra Challenge
The Kent Downs Ultra Challenge is a basecamp event near Maidstone with looped routes starting and finishing at the Kent Showground. It offers three main distances:
- 50 km
- 25 km
- 10 km
The full 50 km route is a looped course around the Kent Downs, run anticlockwise. The route uses the North Downs Way to Blue Bell Hill, passes Aylesford, follows the River Medway to Mote Park at the halfway point for a picnic, continues along the Len Valley Walk to Leeds Castle, and returns on the North Downs Way to the showground finish. Approximate elevation figures are listed as ~1000 m for the 50 km, ~450 m for the 25 km, and ~200 m for the 10 km.
Support, facilities and categories
The event provides covered rest stops roughly every 12.5 km with seating, toilets, medical staff and catering; a picnic lunch is scheduled at the 25 km halfway point on the 50 km route. On-course support includes medics, podiatrists and massage services, a signed route with GPS tracking and timing scans at rest stops monitored by a control room. Basecamp facilities include parking, weekend camping packages with hot showers, food and drink, bar facilities and shuttle transfers to the nearest train station. Entry categories include walking, jogging or running, a Solo Start option, an ULTRA MARCH® category for 50 km walkers aiming for sub-12-hour completion, and a Trailblazerz® option for faster competitive runners.
