Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge : event overview
The Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge takes place on 18-19 July 2026 in the Gower Peninsula, South Wales. The event basecamp is in the grounds of Penrice Castle and offers camping and parking. The route uses a figure-of-8 format based at Penrice, combining west and east loops to cover coastal and inland terrain including beaches, limestone cliffs, moors, ridges, and woodlands. The organiser offers single-day and two-day formats for the 100 km distance.
Distances and course
- 100 km - figure-of-8 route, ~2200 m climb
- 75 km - figure-of-8 route, ~1550 m climb
- 50 km - western or eastern loop, ~1200 m / ~1000 m climb
- Marathon (42 km) - ~900 m elevation
- 25 km - ~550 m elevation
- 10 km - ~250 m climb
Options include a continuous 100 km, a full 2-day daylight 100 km (western loop then eastern loop), and single-loop choices for shorter distances. Camping packages are available at the Penrice basecamp.
Support, services and categories
The event provides covered rest stops approximately every 12.5 km, with major stops about every 25 km. Rest stops include marquees, catering, seating, changing areas, medical and massage teams. The route is fully signed with pink arrows and night glow-sticks, and an app offers Google maps and GPS tracking. The organiser operates timing scans at rest stops and a control room. Food and drink are provided at regular intervals; dietary requirements are catered for and a hot finishers meal is available. Finishers receive a medal, T-shirt, and a finisher certificate.
