About the race
UCSD Score-O is an orienteering Score-O event on the University of California San Diego campus in La Jolla (9390 Mandeville Ln, 92093). The course runs across campus terrain that includes coastal bluffs, research buildings, courtyards, eucalyptus groves, and landmarks such as Geisel Library and the Snake Path sculpture.
The event uses the Score-O format and is mapped at 1:5000 with 5 m contour intervals. Electronic punching will be used; all participants must bring, rent, or purchase an epunch. Rental epunches are available for $5 and controls are AIR+ enabled. An introductory clinic will be offered before the start to teach basic orienteering skills.
Pre-registration is required and the event is capped at 100 participants. Standard registration policies apply. Volunteers receive up to a $20 credit toward a race registration fee. Participants must return to headquarters within the one hour course time limit and download their results by the event deadline so organizers can confirm safety; if a participant fails to check in before departing, volunteers may search the course.
Headquarters is on the Sun God Lawn. If driving, the nearby Scholars Parking Structure is recommended; parking is free for the first 30 minutes and $2.25 per hour thereafter.
