UConn Health Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
The UConn Health Half Marathon on Iron Horse is a long-standing athletic tradition in Simsbury that offers participants a variety of race distances and community activities. The event features a two-loop course that passes alongside the Farmington River and local farmlands.
Participants can choose from several distance options:
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 10 km
- 5 km
- HMF FitKids Run (1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, or 1 mile)
The HMF FitKids distances are designed for children aged 2 to 11. In addition to the physical races, a virtual race option is available for those who cannot attend in person. Finishers in the 5 km, 10 km, and half marathon receive a custom medal and a short-sleeve technical race shirt.
The event is part of larger regional series, including the 5K and 10K Challenges, which connect races in Middletown, Simsbury, and Old Wethersfield. It also serves as the first leg of the Connecticut Double, where runners complete this half marathon in June followed by a marathon in October. After the races, a celebration is held featuring food and craft beer. The event also incorporates a community program called Run for Good, allowing participants to support local charity partners and donate nonperishable food to a local school food pantry program.
