About the race
The Two Islands half marathon is a friendly, scenic road race held in the Outer Hebrides. The route starts on the Isle of Berneray near the Gatliff Trust Hostel, crosses a causeway to North Uist and finishes in Lochmaddy at the Lochmaddy Hotel, which sponsors the event and provides lunch at the finish.
The course is rural and gently undulating, with sea views for virtually the whole way. Most of the route is on single-track surfaced roads with very little traffic. The route and distance have been officially measured by Scottish Athletics.
The event was scheduled for Saturday 29 August 2026 and was in its 16th year. Entries opened on 5 January 2026 and closed on 1 July 2026, with 67 participants recorded at closing. Entry fees listed for the event were £13 for UK Athletics members and £15 for non-members.
Organized by North Uist Amateur Athletics Club, the race is deliberately timed near the end of the local running season when most other island races have already taken place. The event is described as relatively small and takes place entirely on island roads and causeways. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
