Turtle Trot 5Ks at Bald Head Island Conservancy
The Turtle Trot 5Ks are organized by the Bald Head Island Conservancy at the Conservancy campus on Bald Head Island, NC, with proceeds supporting the Conservancy and its Sea Turtle Protection Program. The course runs through the island’s historic maritime forest and dunes.
Registration is online only with a deadline of 8:30 PM the night before race day. There is no registration on the day of the race. Participants must check in 20 to 25 minutes before the race. Race packs with a BHIC‑themed Turtle Trot t‑shirt and bib are available at the check‑in table in front of Turtle Central. First place finishers in each age group receive a sea turtle medal.
Age brackets for both men and women are 10 and under, 11 to 17, 18 to 39, and 40 and over.
Additional rules and logistics include no beach route due to erosion and narrow beaches, no dogs allowed, and route maps available at check‑in. If the event is cancelled on race day for inclement weather, no refunds will be provided but participants will receive their race packets. Transportation to and from the island and while on the island is the responsibility of the participant; the start and finish area is approximately three miles from the marina and ferry trams, golf cart rentals, and bicycle rentals are available. Refunds are allowed up to 30 days before the event.
