Turkey Vulture Stretch 5K
The Turkey Vulture Stretch is a community road run in Ely, Nevada held on March 20, 2027. The event is based at Steptoe Park and follows a town route that passes the Ely Cemetery. The run honors the seasonal return of turkey vultures and takes place regardless of weather.
The published course for 2025 starts and ends at Steptoe Park. The route goes down Avenue K, left on E 13th Street, left on E Madison Avenue, left onto California Avenue which becomes Grant Avenue, right onto E 3th Street, and right onto Avenue K to the finish. The route is not closed to traffic; participants must run on the left side of the road, against traffic. Dogs are not allowed on the course. Strollers and wagons are permitted.
Registration is available online only; there is no same day registration. Shirt orders have a deadline of March 12 at midnight and registration closes March 18 at midnight. Entry fees are listed by category: adult with shirt $35, adult no shirt $20, kid with shirt (5 to 10 years) $25, kid no shirt (5 to 10 years) $10, and children 4 years and younger free. A group discount of $5 off per person applies for groups of 10. Package pickup is scheduled for Friday, March 19, 5:00 - 6:30 pm at Desert Mountain Realty, 1060 E. Aultman.
Medals are awarded to the top three male and female finishers, top three kids (12 years and younger), and top three seniors (55 and older). Youth who register in the adult category are eligible only for adult placing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
