Turkey Trot Detroit : General Information
The Strategic Staffing Solutions Turkey Trot is the race that kicks off America’s Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit. The event has been held for over 40 years and is noted for large participation, with many runners wearing costumes. Organizers have called it "The Parade before The Parade."
Multiple distances are offered:
- 10k Strategic Staffing Solutions Turkey Trot
- 5k Stuffing Strut
- 1 mile Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Mashed Potato Mile
All registered participants receive a long-sleeved technical shirt. Custom-designed medals are awarded to all finishers. The event is stroller friendly; pets and bikes are not permitted. Participants may pick up packets for other runners.
Registration for the next edition opens on Friday, May 1, 2026. Advance packet pickup is scheduled for November 14–21, 2026. Additional packet pickup will be available at the Huntington Place Expo in Hall E on November 25 and November 26. A list of advance pickup locations is provided by the organizer.
The course runs along the parade route and passes areas with very large spectator crowds. The event includes an expo and works with charity partners and sponsors as part of the Thanksgiving Day activities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
