About the race
The Athens Thanksgiving Turkey Trot is a community running event held at the YMCA Cain Center in Athens, Texas on November 26, 2026. The event program includes a timed 5K, a 1 Mile Family Fun Run or Walk, and a 100 Yard Kids and Pets Obstacle Course.
The timed 5K is open to all participants. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded to top finishers in each division: Male 18 and older; Male 17 and younger; Female 18 and older; Female 17 and younger. Strollers, wagons, and leashed pets are allowed on the 5K course and will start behind the runners.
The 1 Mile Family Fun Run or Walk is an easy 1 mile course intended for families. Participants may run, jog, or walk together. Pets on a leash are permitted. Strollers, wagons, wheelchairs, and mobility carts are welcome.
The Kids and Pets Obstacle Course is a 100 yard course designed for children 10 and under, featuring pool noodles and hula hoops. Children may bring leashed pets. Kids registered for the obstacle course may join the 5K or the Fun Run at no additional fee.
All proceeds from the event benefit Hope Springs Water, a nonprofit organization based in Athens, Texas that provides safe water, sanitation, and hygiene education. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
