Tunxis Trail Races
The Tunxis Trail Races are trail running events held in Burlington, CT, organized by the Burlington Land Trust as a fundraiser. The races are part of the Blue Blazed Trail Running Series. The Tunxis Trail itself is part of the Blue Blazed hiking trail system managed by the Connecticut Forest and Parks Association.
This year the fall format is limited to shorter distances. The event uses trails and landmarks within the Tunxis Trail system and lists the venue location as 275 Punch Brook Road, Burlington.
Race courses run over a mix of trail types and surfaces. The routes include double track, single track, half track, off track sections, and some road. Organizers note the possibility of encountering prickers where brush hogging has not been completed.
Distances:
- 8K (5 miles)
- 5K (3.1 miles)
The 8K course passes several local landmarks including the CT State Trout Hatchery, Nassahegan State Forest, and Devil’s Kitchen. The event is presented as a set of short trail races within the Tunxis Trail network and supports the Burlington Land Trust. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
