Tug Hill Yeti Quest : January 31, 2026, Booneville, NY
Tug Hill Outfitters is hosting a winter, yeti-themed adventure orienteering race at the Black River Environmental Improvement Association (BREIA) Trails in Booneville, NY on January 31, 2026. The event requires participants to use snowshoes and/or skis (subject to snow conditions). Registration includes one set of maps per team, a performance winter beanie, snacks, a post-race meal, and prizes for top finishing teams. Limited snowshoe and cross country ski rentals are available.
Event format, navigation and categories
Racers navigate using only a map and compass; GPS devices are not allowed. Teams compete to find checkpoints; teams that return after the time cut-off lose one checkpoint for every minute late. Final course distances are still being determined.
The event offers three main options: a 3 Hour Cross Country Ski/Snowshoe race, an 8 Hour Ski & Snowshoe race, and an 8 Hour Snowshoe race. Courses combine groomed cross-country ski trails with off-trail bushwhacking through woods. Teams may switch between skis and snowshoes as allowed by each race option, and the 3-hour race includes a free navigation clinic before the start.
Team sizes range from solo up to six people, with a cap of four for adult teams and families allowed up to six. Competition categories include solo (men's, women's, non-binary), 2-person (men's, women's, mixed), 3- and 4-person (men's, women's, mixed), and family teams.
