Event overview
Trails & Tarmac Backyard Ultra - Winter is a Limitless Trails event on Saturday 14 February 2026 near Crickhowell, Powys, in the Black Mountains. The course is a mix of trail and tarmac, described as roughly 50/50, with one gradual climb, a short steep section and otherwise relatively flat terrain. The race uses a loop of about 4.2 miles. Medals are awarded to anyone who reaches 32 miles. The last runner to complete a loop is given the winner's trophy. Entry fee is £100 and the minimum age is 17. Entries open 25 June 2025 and close 6 February 2026.
Race format and logistics
The event follows a backyard ultra format with each loop starting precisely one hour after the previous start. Competitors must be in the starting corral at the bell and must start each loop at the bell. Each loop must be completed within the hour to count. Competitors may not leave the course during a loop except for restroom breaks. Personal aid during a loop is not allowed; there will be a common aid station at headquarters. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are not permitted. Timing will be provided and results will record distance covered. The event is open ended. Support provisions include on-site medics, showers and toilets, event photographers, parking at HQ (£5) and basic camping nearby. A GPX file for the route is available.
