Event Overview
The Trails & Tarmac Summer 12hr BYU 2026 is a backyard ultra-style event held near Crickhowell in the Black Mountains. The competition follows a specific format where participants run a 4.167-mile loop once every hour. The course consists of an even split between trail and tarmac surfaces, featuring one gradual climb and a short steep section. Apart from these inclines, the terrain is relatively flat.
Race Format
The event is capped at 12 hours. For the first eleven hours, runners must complete the loop within the one-hour time limit to remain in the competition. Participants are required to be in the starting corral when the bell sounds for each loop. The final (twelfth) yard is conducted as a standard race, where the fastest person to complete the loop is declared the winner.
Participant Information
The event is open to runners aged 17 and older. There is a specific set of rules regarding support and equipment:
- Distances include loops of 4.167 miles, with a total potential distance of approximately 50 miles.
- Trekking poles and other artificial aids are not permitted on the course.
- Competitors may only leave the course between loops for restroom use.
- Personal aid is only allowed at the designated headquarters area between loops.
- Participants who reach a total distance of 32 miles receive a special ultra-distance medal.
