Event Overview
The Trails of Mena event takes place on Saturday, 21st March 2026. It offers two trail running distances: a 20-mile run and a trail marathon (26.2 miles). Both races have a minimum age requirement of 18 years.
Course and Route
The course is an anti-clockwise circular route combining track, maintained trail, field, and woodland terrain. The route starts near the race headquarters and follows the 5 Pits Trail to Pilsley and Tibshelf. It continues east towards Teversal and Rowthorne, skirts woodland near Hardwick Hall, crosses the M1 motorway, and passes through the farmland of Sutton Scarsdale and Sutton Springs Wood before rejoining the 5 Pits Trail back to the finish. The course is described by the organizer as a more runnable event and will be lightly marked with arrows at major junctions. GPX files for navigation are available for both races.
Race Details
The event has a time limit of 7 hours. There are two checkpoints on the 20-mile route and three on the marathon route. All checkpoints provide drinks and food, including sweet and savoury options. Medical cover is present on the course and at the race headquarters.
Finish and Registration
Every finisher receives a medal. Prizes are awarded to the first male and female runner in each race, and light refreshments are available at the finish. Registration takes place at the North Wingfield Community Resource Centre on Whiteleas Avenue in North Wingfield, Chesterfield. Free car parking is available at the centre and on adjoining estate roads.
