Trails of Mena : 20 mile and marathon trail races
The Trails of Mena is an anti clockwise circular trail event linking a series of routes used by Mena. The course combines track, maintained trail, fields and woodland with sections of ascent and descent, and is described as generally runnable. The route is lightly marked with arrows at major junctions and GPX files are made available for both races to assist navigation.
Distances:
- 20 mile trail run
- Marathon
The route leaves North Wingfield Community Resource Centre and follows the 5 Pits Trail to Pilsley and Tibshelf, then continues east towards Teversal and Rowthorne near Hardwick Hall, skirts surrounding woodland, crosses the M1 and traverses farmland around Sutton Scarsdale and Sutton Springs Wood before returning to the 5 Pits Trail and the finish.
There will be two checkpoints on the 20 mile route and three on the marathon route. Checkpoints provide drinks and food, both sweet and savoury. A seven hour time limit applies. Every finisher receives a medal and there are prizes for first male and first female in each race. Light refreshments are available at the finish. Medic cover is provided on the course and at race headquarters.
Registration takes place at North Wingfield Community Resource Centre; free car parking is available at the centre and on adjoining estate roads. Dogs are not permitted due to permit and insurance restrictions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
