Top Of The World Ultra
The Top Of The World Ultra is an annual trail running event held at Sun Peaks, British Columbia. The race starts and finishes in the Main Village at Sun Peaks Resort, specifically at the base of the Sunburst Express Chair Lift. The courses consist of ascending technical trails, mountain bike paths, forest service roads, meadows, and forests. The event is held on the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc territory and supports the Sun Peaks Mountain Rescue Society.
Participants can select from three distinct distances:
- 50 km: An ultra route covering all three mountains in Sun Peaks (Mount Tod, Orient Hill, and Mount Morrisey) with 1600 m of total elevation gain and loss.
- 28 km: A route that ascends to the summit of Mount Tod at 2130 m before returning to the village via the Valley View Trail, totaling 1164 m of elevation.
- 15 km (measured closer to 17 km): A route that climbs to the top of the Sunburst Express chair lift with 673 m of elevation gain and loss.
The race is limited to 400 participants and operates as a cupless event; runners must carry their own reusable cup and a hydration vest with a minimum capacity of one liter. Aid stations are situated along the routes providing water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks. Timing is recorded via a mobile application, and results are shared following the event. Drop bags are permitted for the 50 km distance only. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
