Tom Brennan Memorial 5K
The Tom Brennan Memorial 5K takes place on New Year's Day in Phoenix Park. Organized by Liffey Valley AC, this long-standing event is part of the Lord Mayor's 5 Alive Challenge. The race is open to participants who are at least 13 years of age.
The course is designed to be flat and fast, starting and finishing on the Furze Road near the Eagle Monument on Chesterfield Avenue. The layout is intended for participants seeking personal best times. The event features chip timing, with results recorded from the start to the finish line. Race numbers are posted to participants in advance, as there is no registration available on the day of the event.
Participants who complete the 5 km distance receive a bespoke event bobble hat. The event provides awards across several categories, including prizes for the first three men and women, first junior male and female, and various veteran age groups ranging from O/35 to O/75. A bonus prize is also available for any participant who sets a new course record. Team prizes are awarded to the top three men's and women's teams, based on the three highest-scoring members.
