Toi's Challenge : Julian's Berry Farm and Cafe (Whakatāne, NZ)
Toi's Challenge is an annual trail event held in Whakatāne each November. The course follows the Nga Tāpuwae o Toi track and crosses coastal and native bush terrain. The main trail distance is listed at about 18.5 km and the route includes just under 1000 m of elevation gain, making the terrain notably rugged compared with a standard road half-marathon.
The event is organised by the Whakatane Athletics and Harriers Club and offers multiple entry formats:
- 18 km Julian's Berry Farm and Cafe individual run
- 18 km walk
- 18 km two-person team relay (entry per runner)
- 6 km Robinson Law course
Pricing tiers are indicated for early, normal, and late entry for each category. The event page lists Whakatāne, New Zealand as the location and gives a date in November 2026. The description emphasises the coastal and bush scenery along the route and the challenge posed by the elevation and rugged trail surface.
