Toi's Challenge 2026
Toi's Challenge takes place in Whakatāne, New Zealand, and is held each November. The event is organised by the Whakatane Athletics and Harriers Club and uses the Nga Tāpuwae o Toi track, a route that follows coastal and bush terrain and is named after a Māori chief from about 800 years ago.
The main route is listed at around 18 km and is also described as 18.5 km in some materials, making it slightly shorter than a half marathon by distance. The course includes rugged terrain and almost 1000 m of total elevation gain. A separate 6 km run is offered on a different course.
Entry fees are tiered with early bird, normal and late pricing. The 18 km individual run shows Early Bird NZ$70, Normal NZ$80, Late NZ$90. The 18 km team relay lists per runner fees of NZ$40, NZ$45 and NZ$50 across the same periods. The 6 km entry is NZ$20 with a late fee of NZ$25. Registration spots are limited for each category.
