Rugged Road Relay in Southeast Idaho
The To Bone and Back Relay is a long-standing endurance event held in Idaho Falls. Having taken place for over 34 years, this out-and-back road race leads participants through remote sections of the Idaho landscape. The course is characterized by its asphalt surface, long climbs, and significant elevation changes.
Participants can choose from a wide variety of participation formats, ranging from short solo runs to full distance team relays. The event offers the following options:
- 40-Mile Solo: A full endurance challenge through remote areas.
- 2-Person Relay: Each teammate completes 20 miles.
- 4-Person Relay: Each runner covers 10 miles.
- 8-Person Relay: Available for Men's, Women's, Coed, and Family teams, with each person running 5 miles.
- High School Relay: 8-person teams for girls, boys, or mixed groups.
- 5-Mile Solo: A single-leg individual distance.
Specific divisional rules apply to certain categories. For example, coed teams must include a minimum of two female runners. The family relay is reserved for participants related by blood, marriage, or legal guardianship. The course follows a rugged route that requires careful pacing due to the exposed sections and relentless descents encountered along the way.
