Tiger 10 Miler Trail Race
The Tiger 10 Miler is an annual trail running event held at the Byron Forest Preserve in Byron, Illinois. The course covers 10 miles of terrain consisting of hills, twists, and turns. The route spans the main forest preserve area and the secluded Nardi Equine Prairie.
Participants receive a shirt and a custom finisher's medal upon completing the distance. The event recognizes various categories with awards, including the top three finishers in five-year age brackets ranging from 19 and under to 70 and older. Overall male and female winners, as well as masters winners, receive awards and cash prizes. Specific recognition is also provided for individuals who have completed the event five times in total.
This event operates as a cup-free race to maintain the cleanliness of the trails and reduce environmental impact. Runners are required to carry their own handheld water bottles or hydration packs, as no paper cups are provided at the three aid stations located along the course.
A post-race gathering takes place at the Hairy Cow Brewing Company. During this time, participants are provided with pizza while awards, cash prizes, and door prizes are distributed. Packet pickup is available both the day before the event at the Byron Park District and on the morning of the race at the Jarrett Prairie Center.
