Thursley Common 10km
This event is a guided trail run of 10 km around Thursley National Nature Reserve in Surrey. The reserve covers 325 hectares and contains open dry heathland, peat bogs, pine and deciduous woodland. Runners follow trails that include a notable boardwalk section that has received public recognition.
The run is described as the flattest offered by the organiser and is presented with group support. Sessions are offered as sunset runs during the lighter months and night runs during darker months; night runs use headtorches and are run in a group environment. Participants should be comfortable maintaining an average trail pace of about 10 minutes per mile (6:15 per km) for prolonged periods to enjoy the group run. Faster runners should expect a more social pace at times.
A full kit list is provided to participants. There is a car park at the meeting area in Thursley. The listed cost is £22 per person. The organiser partners with a headtorch brand to allow participants to trial equipment on evening runs. An alcohol-free beer from a brewing partner may be available at the end of the run, subject to availability.
The reserve supports wildlife including pond-dwelling dragonflies and damselflies and a variety of bird species such as Dartford warblers, stonechats and wheatears. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
