Thunder Chicken Squatch : Stokes State Forest
Thunder Chicken Squatch is a trail party held in Stokes State Forest in Branchville, New Jersey on Sunday August 9, 2026. The event offers several route options on technical singletrack trails with rocks, roots, and some steep, rugged sections. The field is limited to 175 participants across all events.
Distances:
- 17 miles - about 1,500 ft elevation gain
- 10K - about 600 ft elevation gain (course closer to 6.6 miles)
- 10K Ruck
- 5K - about 325 ft elevation gain
All events have a six hour race cutoff. The 17 mile course includes one on-course cutoff and requires a steady pace (about 21 minutes per mile). Pace guidance for other distances is provided by the organizer.
Required items vary by distance. 17 mile participants must carry a charged phone, water, at least 200 extra calories, a whistle, and a GPX file of the course. 10K and 5K participants must carry water and a whistle. Trekking poles and sturdy trail shoes are recommended.
Aid stations and facilities: the start/finish area has water, snacks, a covered pavilion, and flush restrooms. The 17 mile route includes a full aid station and a water-only station; the 10K has a water-only on-course station; the 5K has no on-course aid stations.
