Three Castles 50km Race
The Three Castles event is a 50km ultra running race following the Medway Valley Walk from Rochester to Tonbridge. The route is mainly on marked towpaths and trails alongside the River Medway, with sections on paved towpath, hard-packed trail and brief road crossings. The course passes through villages and towns including Burham, Wouldham, Aylesford, Allington, Maidstone, East Farleigh, Teston Country Park, Wateringbury, Yalding and Tonbridge, and goes by three medieval castles. The final segment finishes with a lap on the Tonbridge athletics track.
The event provides three fully stocked aid stations, live race timing with GPS tracking, medical support, bag transfer to the finish, and awards for first to third male and female. The race is fully marked and operates a strict nine hour cut off for official results and medals. Checkpoints are at 13km (Aylesford Priory), 24km (Barming Bridge) and 37km (Hop Farm) with specified cut off times at each.
Rules include a minimum age of 20 years, visible bibs, no pacers, no dogs on course, no storage of supplies along the route and a zero tolerance policy for littering. Mandatory kit includes a fully charged mobile phone and drinks bottles with capacity expected to be around 1 litre (may be reduced to 500ml shortly before the race). A drop bag service is available and finish facilities include toilets, showers and changing areas. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
