About the race

The Three Castles 50 km is a point-to-point trail ultramarathon that follows the Medway Valley Walk from Rochester to Tonbridge. The route runs along riverside towpaths, village paths and country lanes, beginning beneath Rochester Castle and finishing with a full lap of the athletics track at Tonbridge School Centre. The course is described as predominantly flat and passes three medieval castles, historic locks and bridges. The event includes chip timing, live GPS tracking, a fully marked course, medical support, bag transfer from start to finish and a finish village with refreshments.

Runners who complete the course within the official overall cut-off receive a finisher's medal. There are four staffed aid stations at roughly 13 km, 24 km, 34 km and 44.5 km offering drinks, nutrition and food; each station can cater for dietary requirements and can provide female hygiene products on request. Mandatory kit requires a mobile phone, a minimum 1 litre fluid capacity and a reusable cup. Recommended items include a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, sun cream, additional nutrition and payment card or cash.

The event enforces a strict 9 hour overall cut-off and checkpoint cut-offs at checkpoint 3 (6 hours 15 minutes) and checkpoint 4 (8 hours 10 minutes). Participants must be at least 20 years old and must stay on the marked course; noncompliance may result in disqualification. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
