Three Castles 50km Race
The Three Castles 50km is a long distance race that follows the Medway Valley Walk from Rochester to Tonbridge. The course runs mainly on shared towpaths and trails alongside the River Medway and passes three medieval castles and several villages including Burham, Wouldham, Aylesford, Maidstone, East Farleigh, Wateringbury and Yalding. The final segment leads onto the Tonbridge athletics track for a circuit finish.
The route is fully marked and includes three staffed checkpoints with food and drink at approximately 13 km (Aylesford Priory), 24 km (Barming Bridge) and 37 km (Hop Farm). The event provides live race timing and GPS tracking, medical support, bag transfer to the finish, and awards for first, second and third male and female finishers. Finishers receive a medal if they complete the race within the official nine hour cut off.
Race rules state runners must be at least 20 years old, wear bibs visibly, stay on course and complete the distance on foot. Pacers are not permitted and dogs are prohibited. The event is cup less and requires a mandatory mobile phone and a drinks bottle with a minimum capacity currently set at 1 litre subject to final confirmation. A limited shuttle bus from finish to start is available to registered runners for a fee. The race holds a permit from the Trail Running Association.
