The York 5k, 10k and Half Marathon Winter Warmer Run
This event takes place at York Racecourse and includes 5 km, 10 km and half marathon distances. The event supports the charity Shelter and aims to raise awareness and funds on an optional basis.

- 5 km: one lap
- 10 km: two laps
- Half marathon: initial 1.1 km out and back then four full laps
The course is mostly on tarmac with sections on trail and some muddy parts. It is described as generally flat with a few undulating sections. The course is dog friendly, not suitable for wheelchair users, and off road running buggies are permitted.
Race services include full chip timing, trophies for winners, medals for finishers, marked and marshalled routes, water stations with cupped water only, finish line sweets, medical cover, partner benefits and penguin bars. Bag storage and toilets are provided at the event hub; coffee and snacks are available for sale. Participants receive instant results via a timing screen and an email update after the race.
The Winter Warmer Runs support Shelter. Between April 2024 and March 2025 Shelter reported 16,721 households used the emergency helpline; 13,130 households visited local hubs in England; 7.4 million visits to online advice pages; 18,043 webchat conversations; 16,796 professional advice responses; and 13,700 households saw a positive change in their housing situation.
Travel advice notes a recommended race-day route via the A64 to the south of the racecourse, plentiful free car parking, and a shuttle bus linking York Station to the racecourse with a return fare of £3.00.
