Event overview
The WMD Triathlon is based at Weymouth College, Cranford Avenue, Weymouth. The event comprises three separate races:
- Sprint
- Classic
- Middle distance triathlon
Race headquarters are near the Weymouth Sealife Centre and the beach. The secure transition area is within about 500 metres of the college. There are nearby facilities including a café, toilets and parking within a couple of hundred metres.
Course and race format
The swim is an open water sea swim in Weymouth Bay on a one-loop course around marker buoys. Safety craft and lifeguards will be in position; lifeguards may remove any competitor they consider to be in danger. The bike uses a rolling cycle course. The middle distance bike route runs mainly on long, relatively flat roads. Run courses use Weymouth and the Lodmoor nature reserve; the sprint and classic use shorter loops while the middle distance is longer. The run finishes in the Weymouth College car park at the rear of Lodmoor Country Park. There will be water or hydration stations approximately every 2 to 3 miles.
Logistics, timing and awards
Registration and bike racking take place on race morning at Weymouth Sports College and all race materials are collected at registration. Parking is available at the nearby Lodmoor Car Park. Camping is available on site; participants should contact Weymouth College for terms and conditions. All three events are chip timed by Timing Monkey. Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers and the top age grouper in each category. All finishers receive a race memento.
