Event details

The Portland Coastal Ultra Trail Marathon takes place on 8 February 2026 at The National Sailing Academy, Portland (DT5 1SA). The race weekend includes three distances:

  • Marathon - open to entrants aged 18 and over
  • Half marathon - open to entrants aged 17 and over
  • 10k - open to entrants aged 16 and over

Entry fees are listed from about £27 to £44. Prizes include a bespoke finishers medal and trophies for the first three male and female finishers in each distance. The event uses chip timing. Refreshments and experienced medical cover are provided at checkpoints and the finish. Printed route maps and free professional race photos are included; a technical running T-shirt is offered for purchase at £13 during registration. Participants also receive a Portland Coastal Marathon buff.

Course, navigation and rules

The route follows the Portland section of the South West Coastal Path and is primarily on well-trodden tracks marked by Acorn fingerposts. This is a self-navigation event: runners must download the route to a GPS device before the day. The organiser does not place specific race markers on the route, and feed-station check-ins are used to confirm course completion. The event is held under UK Athletics rules; listed age-distance limits under Rule 141 s5 are noted.

Mandatory kit

Participants must carry mandatory kit during the race. Required items include a drink container of at least 500 ml, a windproof jacket (waterproof recommended), emergency nutrition, head covering, a waterproofed charged mobile phone, a foil blanket or full-sized bin liner, a whistle, and a small first-aid kit. Kit checks may occur before the start, randomly during the race, and at finish; lack of mandatory kit may prevent starting or lead to disqualification.
