Portland Coastal Marathon

Portland Coastal Marathon - 14 February 2027

The Portland Coastal Marathon takes place at Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy on 14 February 2027 and offers three distance options:

• Marathon (two loops of the island)
• Half Marathon (single loop section)
• 10k (single loop section)

The route follows the South West Coast Path around the Isle of Portland. This is a self-navigation coastal trail event: participants must download the GPX file in advance and follow it on their device because there will be no event-specific route markers. Checkpoints confirm full course completion and shortcuts or deviation from the official route may lead to disqualification. For the marathon loops, runners are instructed to keep the sea on their left for the first loop and on their right for the second loop.

The course is exposed and varied underfoot with cliffs, rocky sections, muddy stretches and steep climbs and descents; February weather can add wind and wet conditions. Organisers provide checkpoint refreshments, professional medical cover, chip timing, free professional race photography, a bespoke finisher medal and a Portland Coastal buff. Trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each distance and an optional technical T-shirt is available for £15. Entries are capped at 500.

There is mandatory kit for the full duration of the race and kit checks may occur before, during and after the event. Required items include minimum 500 ml fluid, a windproof jacket (waterproof recommended), emergency nutrition, head covering, charged mobile phone in a waterproof case, foil blanket or full-size bin liner, whistle and a small first aid kit. Traditional earbuds and noise cancelling headphones are not permitted; bone conduction devices are allowed. Failure to carry the mandatory kit may result in no number, no result and no refund.
