The Water Run 2026
The Water Run 2026 is a fundraising running event taking place in Medicine Hat at the Veiner Centre, 225 Woodman Ave SE, on October 10, 2026. The event offers both in-person and virtual participation options for runners and walkers.
Distances offered include:
- 3 km (in-person and virtual)
- 5 km (in-person and virtual)
- 10 km (in-person and virtual)
The event is held in partnership with Nehemiah Construction Ministries to raise funds for clean water projects for the Turkana people of Kenya. The event description states that the Turkana are a nomadic people in northwestern Kenya, with around half a million people living in very arid conditions and lacking food, water, medicine, and education. It notes women may walk up to 50 km to carry 20 litres of contaminated water, that many children eat only once every two days, and that 80 percent of hospitalizations are due to waterborne illnesses.
In-person entry includes a Water Run shirt, a medal, a swag bag, and a RacePro chip-timed bib. Bottled water, food, and snacks will be available at the finish area. Prizes are planned for the top two male and female finishers in the 5 km and 10 km and for top fundraising earners. Virtual participants are asked to use the Runkeeper app to track and upload results. Pets are not permitted. Fundraising progress listed on the event page shows CA$105.25 raised toward a CA$50,000.00 goal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
