The Valley Race - 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon
The Valley Race is a community running event held at Woodley Park in Van Nuys, California. Organized by High Tide Runs, the event offers three distinct distances on a course that utilizes the park's open paths and surrounding scenery.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 5k
- 10k
- Half Marathon
The courses feature a variety of terrain and landmarks. Runners travel across grass surfaces, pass under roads through tunnels, and enter the main park area. The 5k route consists of a single loop that goes around the lake. The 10k involve two loops, while the Half Marathon participants complete two loops plus the 10k route. Both longer distances extend to the other side of the park, passing under a bridge before returning via a different path.
On-course support includes multiple water stations along the routes. A central aid station at the finish line provides water, electrolytes, and snacks. The course paths remain open to other park users during the event. For participant safety, staff members at aid stations are trained in CPR, and the routes are marked with chalk and directional signs.
Finishers in all categories receive a race medal. Overall first-place medals are awarded to the top male and female finishers in each distance. Participants may use a gear check service at the registration tent for personal items, provided they bring their own bag. Free parking is available in the park lot and along Woodley Avenue.
