The Sussex Beer Mile

The Sussex Beer Mile is a variations on the classic athletic format, organized by Sussex Trail Events. The race takes place on a 400 meter grass track located in Ferring, near Worthing in West Sussex. The venue features a licensed bar, though participants should note that there are no changing facilities on-site.

The event follows traditional beer mile rules, which require participants to consume one beer and complete one lap, repeating the process four times for a total distance of 1 mile. To comply with official standards, each drink must be a 335 ml bottle or can with an alcohol content of at least 5%.

Participants can choose between two entry categories:

  • Solo
  • Team

The team category allows four runners to split the distance, with each person completing one lap and consuming one beer. A trophy is awarded to the top-performing team. All participants receive a unique beer mile memento and access to bag storage. A referee oversees the proceedings on the fully marked route to ensure rules are followed. Registration and car parking are available at the race location. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
