The Sussex Beer Mile
The Sussex Beer Mile is a themed running event held in Ferring near Worthing, West Sussex. The course takes place on a grass track, offering a trail twist to the classic beer mile format. Participants follow traditional rules, which involve consuming one beer followed by running one lap, repeated four times for a total of four beers and four laps.
The event follows specific technical requirements for the format:
- 1 mile solo distance (comprised of four 400 metre laps)
- 1 mile relay distance for teams
The race uses a 400 metre grass track. Each beer consumed must be a 335 ml bottle or can with an alcohol content of at least 5%. For those who do not wish to complete the full distance solo, a relay option is available where teams of four can participate, with each member completing one lap and one beer.
Registered participants have access to on-site bag storage and a licensed bar. A referee monitors the event to ensure rules are followed. While the venue includes car parking and registration areas, there are no changing facilities available on-site. All finishers receive a unique event memento, and a trophy is awarded to the top-performing team. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
