The Spring Rising
The Spring Rising is an annual event organized by the Oviedo Run Club in Oviedo, Florida. The event takes place at the First United Methodist Church Oviedo and utilizes the Cross Seminole Trail. This trail follows a historic railroad route that passed landmarks connected to the local history of watercress and celery production.
Participants can choose from several event distances and formats:
- 10k Run
- 5K Run/Walk
- Kid Fun Run (up to 1 mile)
- Virtual Run
The course is designed as an out and back route along the trail. The event is characterized by its green initiatives, which include the use of compostable water cups, on-site recycling, and race packets containing practical, reusable items. Finishers receive a non-disposable award sourced from local businesses.
Beyond the race, the event features a Garden and Plant Expo where local gardening clubs, farms, and nurseries provide advice, seeds, and cuttings. The event supports local schools by benefiting underfunded educational gardens and collecting food donations for local pantry programs.
