The Spring Rising
The Spring Rising is an annual community running event hosted by the Oviedo Run Club in Oviedo, Florida. The event benefits underfunded educational gardens in local schools; a portion of registration fees helps provide seeds, soil and supplies for those learning gardens.
Event options include:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 10K
- Kid Fun Run - up to 1 mile
- Virtual Run
- Race Volunteer
A post-race Garden and Plant Expo features local gardening clubs, farms and nurseries offering guidance on home gardening, plus vendor areas with cuttings and seeds. Each finisher receives a non-disposable finisher award sourced from local businesses. Race packets are described as containing practical, reusable items and a commemorative race shirt.
The course is typically an out-and-back route along the Cross Seminole Trail and passes several Oviedo landmarks. The trail follows the route of a former railroad linked to the city’s historical production of watercress and celery.
The event includes a food drive; food collected at the event will be donated to HOPE Helps, Inc. and local public school food pantries. The Oviedo Run Club reports commitments to green event practices such as compostable water cups and on-site recycling. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
