The Spring Rising is the Oviedo Run Club's 6th annual community running event held at First United Methodist Church Oviedo, 263 King St., Oviedo, FL 32765. The event includes multiple race options and a post-race Garden and Plant Expo featuring local gardening clubs, farms, and nurseries offering gardening advice, cuttings, and seeds.
Race options include:
- 3.1 Miles The Spring Rising 5K Run/Walk
- 6.2 Miles The Spring Rising 10K
- 1 Mile Kid Fun Run, up to 1 mile
- 3.1 Miles Virtual Run
A portion of registration fees supports underfunded educational gardens in local schools by providing seeds, soil, and supplies. A volunteer registration category is listed for race-day support. The virtual run notes that the participant packet will be mailed prior to race day.
Finisher awards are described as non-disposable and sourced from local businesses. Race packets are described as practical items intended for reuse, and the event favors sustainable practices such as compostable water cups and on-site recycling. Registrations received before March 13 are guaranteed this year's shirt while supplies last. Participants are asked to bring a food item on race day; collected food will be donated to HOPE Helps, Inc. and local public school food pantries.
The course commonly follows an out-and-back route along the Cross Seminole Trail and passes several Oviedo landmarks; the trail was once the railroad that supported Oviedo's watercress and celery production. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
