Southern Hills Triathlon
The Southern Hills Triathlon takes place at Angostura Recreation Area in the Black Hills, south of Hot Springs, South Dakota. The venue includes a sand beach with no rocks or weeds, a bike course that rolls through neighboring ranch land, and a run path along the lake shore.
The event program includes multiple race categories:
- Olympic Triathlon
- College Sprint Triathlon
- Age Group Sprint Triathlon
- Youth Triathlon with waves for ages 13-15, 10-12, and 6-9
Packet pick-up is located at the race transition area at Breakers Beach. A rules meeting is mandatory for all adult participants. The organizer no longer provides a pasta dinner at the Masonic Lodge. Finishers will be offered grilled cheese sandwiches prepared on a Blackstone grill at the food area, and food and beverages will be available on race day. Race t-shirts are distributed with registration and early registration may be required to guarantee a shirt.
Medals are awarded to all youth and adult finishers. Adult age groups receive first, second, and third place awards, and first place overall awards are given for the Olympic and Sprint distances. The event is held in cooperation with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, Angostura State Recreation Area, and the Friends of the Library in Hot Springs.
