The Shortest Day Winter Trail Challenge
The Shortest Day is an endurance trail event located at Box Hill in Dorking. This event follows a dawn-to-dusk format where participants attempt to complete as many laps as possible between sunrise and sunset. The challenge takes place on a winter trail course starting from the Box Hill Main Car Park.
The event is designed around a single 10-mile trail loop. Each lap features approximately 2,400 feet of elevation gain. Participants have the flexibility to conclude their run after completing any full loop within the designated daylight hours. This format allows runners to determine their own total distance based on the remaining light.
Registration is open to individuals aged 18 or older. The event provides several amenities for participants, including:
- Aid stations
- Medical cover
- Full insurance
- Finishers medals
The course utilizes the natural terrain of Box Hill, offering a vertical challenge during the winter season. The event is organized by The Trail Run Collective and requires pre-entry through the registration system. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
