The Shortest Day

The Shortest Day is a dawn-to-dusk winter trail challenge held at Box Hill, Dorking on Saturday 19 December 2026. The event uses a single trail loop of approximately 10 miles with about 2,400 ft of elevation gain per lap. Runners may stop after any completed lap and run within the daylight window from sunrise to sunset.

The event sets a minimum age of 18 years. Entries open on 12 March 2026 and close on 12 December 2026. Entry fees are listed in tiers: an initial fee of £85, rising to £105 from 22 June 2026 and to £125 from 19 November 2026. Registration is handled through the event entry system used for the race.

Included with entry are full insurance, medical cover, aid stations and a finisher medal. The event also offers the option to purchase XCover, which may permit a refund in specified unforeseen circumstances. The organiser publishes event terms and a cancellation and refund policy.

The format places emphasis on time available in daylight rather than a fixed distance goal: participants decide how many laps to complete before the light runs out. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
