The Sesquilizer : Columbia, SC
The Sesquilizer is a timed trail race held in Columbia, South Carolina, at 9564 Two Notch Road. The course distance is 8.67 miles with approximately 800 feet of elevation gain. Course files are provided on popular platforms such as Strava and Garmin.
The event uses a staggered-start format that assigns participants to 22 age- and gender-based start groups. Groups depart at one-minute intervals, with the fastest young men placed in the final group and the race clock set to begin when that final group leaves. Start group numbers will be printed on each bib. Runners who wish to run together must use the later assigned start slot for their pair or group.
Organizers plan to review results after each running of the event and may adjust the timed start offsets in future editions to better match outcomes. Awards are expected to be given to the top eight overall finishers rather than by separate age categories. A raffle will be held after the race and each starter receives a unisex t-shirt in a chosen size from XS to XL.
Registration opens May 1, 2026. The race format is inspired by other staggered-start events and emphasizes age and gender adjustments to equalize the field. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
