The Sesquilizer
The Sesquilizer is an 8.67 mile road/trail event near 9564 Two Notch Road in Columbia, SC. The course gains about 700 feet of elevation and course files are available on Strava and Garmin.
The event uses a staggered, age-and-gender equalized start format with 22 start groups. Groups depart at one minute intervals so that older age groups begin earlier and the fastest young men start last; the official race clock begins when that final group starts. Each bib will show the assigned start group number. Runners who want to run together must use the later group time.
Awards are planned for the top eight overall finishers; separate age and gender categories are not used because of the equalized starts. Each starter receives a unisex t-shirt available in sizes XS to XL, and a raffle will be held after the race. Organizers plan to review results after each edition and may adjust age and gender time offsets for future races based on how well the equalizing starts match actual results.
