Event overview
The Sand Monster is a timed endurance run held in Sesquicentennial State Park in Columbia, South Carolina on March 15, 2026. The event uses a 6-hour timed format that records how many laps each athlete completes within the allotted time. Registration and event details are managed by the event organizer.
Course and race format
The course is a loop of 3.5 miles with about 270 feet of elevation gain per loop. The route combines single track and double track trails, with pine-needle covered surfaces and one longer sandy climb. The course is shaded in many places and will be marked. Athletes may complete as few as one loop for a counted finish. Laps are counted only if they are finished within the 6-hour race window; ties in completed laps are broken by the finish order of the last completed lap.
Facilities, swag and awards
Race-day provisions include portable toilets and course marking. Each starter and many volunteers receive a Boco Gear technical trucker hat and a personalized inspiration card from local elementary school students. The organizer will place a bell at the finish for athletes who surpass a previous longest distance. Awards are planned for the top four overall male and female finishers and top male and female grand masters (50+). There are no individual age-group awards; additional recognitions include spirit and other special awards, plus a post-race raffle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
