Event
The Sand Monster is a timed trail endurance race held at Sesquicentennial State Park in Columbia, South Carolina (9564 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC 29223). The event is a 6-hour timed race taking place on March 15, 2026. Athletes may run, hike, or walk the course.
Course and format
The race uses a single loop of 3.5 miles with about 270 feet of elevation gain per lap. The course mixes single track and double track, is mostly covered with pine needles, and includes one longer sandy climb. The loop is marked and shaded by trees. Results are based on the number of completed laps within the six-hour limit; finishing requires at least one completed loop. When multiple athletes complete the same number of laps, placement is determined by the finish order on the last completed lap.
Services, awards and extras
Each starter and each volunteer will receive a Boco Gear technical trucker hat with the event logo, subject to registration timing. Starters will also receive a personalized inspiration card from a local 5th grader. Awards are planned for the top four overall male and female finishers and for the top male and female grand masters (50+). There will be additional recognitions such as spirit and other specialty awards, and a post-event raffle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
