The Sand Monster 6 Hour Ultra
The Sand Monster is a 6-hour timed trail race. The event takes place in Sesquicentennial State Park in Columbia, South Carolina. Participants run, hike, or walk on a 3.5-mile loop course. The loop has 270 feet of elevation gain and uses a mix of single-track and double-track trails. One climb on the course is sandy.
Participants must complete at least one loop within 6 hours to be counted as a finisher. There are no intermediate cutoffs. A participant's final distance is based on the number of full loops completed before the 6-hour time limit. If multiple participants complete the same number of loops, their finishing order is determined by when they completed their last loop.
Aid is available at the start/finish area of the loop. The course is marked and has shaded areas.
Registered participants receive a technical trucker hat and a personalized race bib. Awards are given to the top 4 overall male and female finishers. There is also a planned award for the top male and female grand masters (50+). Other special awards, like a Spirit award, are also presented. A post-race raffle is held.
