The Sand Monster 6 Hour Ultra
The Sand Monster is a 6-hour timed trail race held in Sesquicentennial State Park in Columbia, South Carolina. Participants can run, hike, or walk as much as they want within the time limit.
The Course
The event is run on a loop course that is 3.5 miles long per lap, with 270 feet of elevation gain per loop. The trail is a mix of single-track and double-track paths. One climb is sandy, but the majority of the course is covered with pine needles. The route is shaded by trees and will be well-marked.
How the Timed Race Works
Athletes have the full 6 hours to complete as many laps as they wish. Only one completed lap is required to be considered an official finisher. All laps must be completed before the 6-hour cutoff. Race results are based on the total number of loops completed; if multiple athletes finish the same number of loops, their final placing is determined by the order in which they finished their last lap.
Event Details and Awards
The event includes pre-race package pickup and a briefing. Each registered participant and volunteer will receive a technical trucker hat. There will also be other unique awards, such as Spirit and Far Out awards. A post-race raffle will be held. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
