The Sand Monster 6 Hour Ultra

The Sand Monster 6 Hour Ultra is a six hour timed trail event held at Sesquicentennial State Park in Columbia, South Carolina, located at 9564 Two Notch Road. The event is open to runners, hikers and walkers who complete laps on a loop course.

The course is a 3.5-mile loop with about 270 feet of elevation gain per lap. The route combines single track and double track. One of the longer climbs features sandy terrain beneath pine needles, most trails are covered with pine needles, and trees provide shade. The course will be well marked.

Athletes have six hours to accumulate as many laps as they can. A counted finish requires completion of at least one full loop within the six hour limit. When athletes complete the same number of laps, placing is determined by the finish order of the last completed lap.

Event services described include on-course support, port o johns, personalized bibs, a technical trucker hat for starters and volunteers (subject to registration timing), personalized inspiration cards from local elementary students, unique awards for the top overall finishers and grand masters, additional spirit style awards, and a post race raffle. A bell may be available at the finish and there may be celebratory gestures such as high fives and hugs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
