The Rough Rider Memorial 5K
The Rough Rider Memorial 5K is a memorial running event held in Calhoun, Georgia at the Black and Yellow Park (Calhoun City Recreation Park) on September 19, 2026. The event honors 14 Rough Riders who were killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan. Proceeds support VFW Post 5376 to maintain the Rough Rider Memorial Wall at the 1-108th Headquarters and to fund soldier, veteran, and family functions at the post.
Distances offered:
- 5K race
- 5K Ruck with weight requirements: 20 lb for athletes under 150 lb, 30 lb for athletes over 150 lb
- 100 yard Tot Trot
- Virtual 5K option, T shirt available
The course uses the paths in and around the park. It is mostly flat, described as scenic, and is a USATF certified race course. Both the start and finish are located at the Calhoun City Recreation Park. There is parking adjacent to the ball fields near the start and finish.
Registration details in this event include a pre race registration fee of $30 for the 5K and a race day registration rate of $40. The Tot Trot registration fee is $25. Registration opens April 23 and closes September 13 to guarantee T shirt sizes and the reduced fee. Packet pickup is held on race morning. Awards are presented separately for the 5K and the 5K Ruck, including top overall and masters winners and top finishers across specified age categories.
