The Rock Ultra, Paarl Mountain
The Rock Ultra is a mountain trail running event based at the Afrikaans Language Monument (Taal Monument) on the slopes of Paarl Mountain in the Western Cape. The course runs across granite terrain and fynbos with a mix of jeep track, singletrack and technical sections, and it both starts and finishes at the monument. The race village at the monument serves as the central gathering point.
Distances offered cover short runs through to an overnight ultra, with on-course community-crewed aid stations and a range of included items that vary by distance. The event is ITRA listed and longer distances award ITRA Performance Index points and qualifying credits. Typical age range is 12 and up. Spectator access to the race village requires a R20 entrance fee and spectators receive an event wristband. Entries are limited and sold in phases: Early Bird (closes 30 June 2026 or at 25% capacity), Standard Entry, and Late Entry (from 22 November 2026).
Included items vary by distance and may include finisher medals, event socks, event apparel, meal vouchers, finish-line drinks, massage vouchers and a drop bag service. The 5 km event supports the Anna Foundation and proceeds go to that charity. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
