The Roanoke Canal 5k
The event offers a trail 5K and a Half Mile Fun Walk along the historic Roanoke Canal in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. The course follows the Roanoke Canal Trail, a natural surface path that is generally flat with a few hills. Runners pass over several original culverts from the 1820s and by a large bulkhead that once diverted water into the canal.

Registration for the 5K begins at $30 and increases to $40 on race day. The Half Mile Fun Walk registration fee is $10. Registration opens on March 7 and registration deadlines include September 1 for guaranteed t-shirt size; the 5K registration closes September 18 and the Fun Walk closes September 19. Packet pickup and race day registration are held at 100 Oakwood Avenue in Roanoke Rapids.
Awards will be presented for Top 3 Overall male and female and for male and female winners in these age categories: Youth (17 and under), 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. There is a one hour course limit for the 5K.
Proceeds from the event will support replacement of the museum's aging batteau replicas, boats used historically to haul cargo on narrow canals. A neon theme encourages participants to wear bright clothing; those who participate in the theme are entered into a raffle prize. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
