Trail Running in China Camp State Park
The Rattlesnake Ramble is a trail running event held in China Camp State Park, located in Santa Venetia, California. The event features several distance options for participants to choose from:
- 5K
- 10K
- Half Marathon
The 5K course takes place on trails with some technical terrain and minimal elevation changes. The 10K course increases in complexity, incorporating technical sections and single track trails with approximately 1,000 feet of ascent and descent. The Half Marathon is a more rigorous route that includes technical terrain and nearly 1,700 feet of total elevation gain and loss. This distance is specifically noted as a significant challenge suitable for those with existing trail running experience.
Participants can choose between attending the live event at the Miwok Meadows Staging Area or taking part in a virtual version of the races. All registered participants receive event-specific items, including a custom shirt, a beer sampler stein, and a drawstring bag consistent with the event's 12th anniversary. Finishers are awarded a handcrafted woodallion.
The event occurs in a natural state park setting. In the instance of external factors such as hazardous weather, air quality issues, or other force majeure events that prevent a live gathering, the organizer provides options for remote participation and ships event materials to the participants.
