The Piggyback Dash - Union, MO
The Piggyback Dash is an annual running event in Union, Missouri, featuring three distances: a 10K, a 5K, and a 2K fun run/walk. The event benefits the Lance Purschke Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Union R-XI Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.
The course runs through the streets of Union and is described as rolling, with a finish at the top of Autumn Hill. The 5K is a single loop. The 10K and 5K start together; when 5K runners turn onto Autumn Hill Drive, 10K runners continue straight for roughly an additional three miles through Union. Aid stations are provided along the 5K and 10K routes, and post-race refreshments are available.
Timing and awards differ by distance. The 10K and 5K are chip timed and award medals. The 2K fun run/walk is approximately 1.2 miles, is not officially timed, and does not include medals. As a voluntary tradition, runners reaching the bottom of Autumn Hill may carry someone piggyback up the hill to the finish line; this piggyback portion is optional and not required to complete the race.
The event is presented by Cregger Family Dentistry and was established in 2017. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
