The Piggyback Dash 10K, 5K, 2K
The Piggyback Dash is an annual community running event held in Union, Missouri. Established in 2017, the race explores the streets of Union and features a course with rolling terrain. All event proceeds benefit the Lance Purschke Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Union R-XI Foundation.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 2 km
The 10 km and 5 km races are chip-timed events where medals are awarded to finishers. Both distances start simultaneously. The 5 km consists of a single loop, while the 10 km athletes continue for an additional three miles after the 5 km participants turn toward the finish. Aid stations are positioned along both of these routes. The 2 km (1.2 mile) event is a fun run and walk that is not officially timed and does not include medals.
A unique feature of the event takes place at Autumn Hill Drive. As runners reach the bottom of this incline, they have the voluntary option to carry another person piggyback-style to the finish line at the top of the hill. Choosing to complete this optional challenge earns the participant extra finisher swag. Post-race refreshments are provided for participants after they cross the finish line.
