The Owyhee Off-Road Challenge
The Owyhee Off-Road Challenge takes place in the High Desert of Eastern Oregon, starting in the town of Adrian. The event features multiple trail distances through the Owyhee Mountains and surrounding valleys. Participants navigate a landscape of rugged peaks, canyons, and rivers, with courses primarily designed as loops or out-and-back routes.
The 10k and 5k events begin at Two Rivers Community Park. The 10k course involves a one-mile paved section before transitioning to trail terrain with an 890-foot climb toward a ridge. This route provides views of the Snake River Valley, Owyhee River Valley, and the farmlands of Treasure Valley. The 5k follows a path west up Emerald Slope Road toward the northwest of the "A" Hill, returning along a canal path.
The longer distances offer expanded tours of the region. The 55k Ultra and Half Marathon use loop courses that reach higher elevations in the Owyhee Mountains. These routes overlook the Snake River Valley and pass through remote high-desert areas.
Available distances include:
- 55k Ultra
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 10k Run
- 5k Run (3.1 miles)
The event is organized to support local youth programs and the track at the Adrian School District. The terrain includes a mix of pavement, canal paths, and technical trails with significant elevation changes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
