The Next Loop Endurance Series - Busse Woods
The event is held at Ned Brown Forest Preserve, also known as Busse Woods, in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. The course uses a clearly marked 3.1 mile (5K) loop that returns each lap to a centralized start and finish area with a fully stocked aid station.
The trail surface is primarily smooth crushed limestone and packed gravel with occasional paved connector sections, offering reliable footing in most conditions. The terrain is mostly flat and non-technical, which the organizer describes as suitable for first-time trail runners and as an environment for experienced endurance athletes to accumulate distance efficiently over multiple loops.
The preserve setting includes lakes, wildlife, and wooded views on trails just outside the Chicago metro area. The loop based format has athletes start together, complete one 5K loop at a time, and decide whether to continue. Every completed loop counts and is recorded without enforced cutoffs, allowing runners to manage pacing, nutrition, and recovery across repeated laps.
