The Next Loop - Deer Grove East
The event takes place at Deer Grove East Forest Preserve in Palatine, Illinois, located at 1599 Pepper Tree Drive. The course uses a clearly marked loop that returns each lap to the same centralized start and finish area with a fully stocked aid station.
Trails wind through restored prairie, open wetlands, oak savannas, and shaded woodland corridors. Terrain is primarily flat to gently rolling and combines paved and natural-surface trails to provide stable footing and a smooth running experience. Open sections offer broad views across prairie and wetland habitats while wooded sections provide periodic shade.
The preserve is part of an ecologically significant area with restored grasslands, wetlands, and savannas and supports local wildlife. Participants may encounter deer, native birds, and seasonal wildflowers along the course.

The loop-based format has athletes start together and complete one 5K loop at a time. Athletes choose whether to continue after each loop and every completed loop is recorded.
