The NCANA Run for Joy 5K
The NCANA Run for Joy is a 5K event held to support mental health advocacy and wellness for health care trainees. It takes place on October 24, 2026 at Jamison Park, 285 Meadowlark Dr, Winston Salem, NC 27106. The event raises funds to finance initiatives that enhance mental wellness and to provide support for those needing mental health services. Donations and race proceeds are managed by Run for Joy, Inc, a charitable organization established for this purpose.
The event highlights concerns about mental health and suicide among health care trainees and providers, noting that training programs are often rigorous, patient care can be stressful, and stigma may discourage trainees from admitting they need help. The event was started after the tragic death of a health care trainee and aims to bring attention and resources to this issue.
Registration information and fees are set by the organizer. Registration opens May 1, 2026 and for on site events closes August 31, 2026; virtual 5K registration closes October 24, 2026. Fees listed for the events are $30 for the in person 5K and 5K stroller categories, and $25 for the virtual 5K.
