About the race

The Mudder is a mud-run event held on a working sheep and beef farm at Rangitikei Farmstay Woolshed, 498 Makuhou Road, Marton. The course uses natural features of the farm, including springs, swamps, dams and hilly terrain, and combines those with some man made obstacles.

Highlights on the route include a spring fed bog that becomes deep mud, a spongy floating island known as Rubber Island, an old tree called Monster Mac with exposed roots, and multiple slip and slide sections. The short course is about 3 km and the full course is about 5 km.

Entrants share the course with farm animals and should expect uneven, natural surfaces and persistent mud. Costumes are welcome and there are prizes for best dressed teams and individuals. Entries can be made as individuals, families or businesses.

On event day, registrations and bag drop are handled inside the woolshed and numbered wrist bands are used. There are individual changing rooms in the woolshed and warm showers for use after the course. Food and beverage vendors will be on site but operate cash only, and ATMs are available in Marton. Organisers operate a traffic management system on Makuhou Road and request drivers follow the posted entry instructions and marshal directions.

The event also promotes the benefits of exercise for mental health under the theme Move your body, Shift your mind. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
