The Maverick Ochil Hills Trail 2026
The event is a trail running day based at Airthrey Castle, University of Stirling, Stirling, Scotland (FK9 4LA). Routes start by passing through Hermitage Wood and Black Hill, continuing on undulating open trails with the Ochil Hills visible as a distant viewpoint.
There are five route options:
- 50 km - Elevation +1914 m
- 42 km - Elevation +1352 m
- 27 km - Elevation +987 m
- 10 km - Elevation +345 m
- 5 km - Elevation +161 m
Longer routes include climbs and fell trails as they enter the Ochil Hills. Ultra and marathon runners have a nine hour cut off to complete their courses; this cut off is firm. Outposts will provide top up food and drink such as fruit, cake, crisps, gels and electrolyte drinks. The event is aiming to keep outposts cup free, so participants should bring a reusable cup or bottle.
Organisers work with local partners including the University, Mountain Rescue and Future Forest Charity. Dogs are not permitted due to likely high temperatures. Facilities listed for the event include free parking, fully marked courses, timed results, event photography, fuel and hydration outposts, bag drop and a metal finisher medal.
Participants on the ultra and marathon routes must carry mandatory items such as a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, 800 calories of food, at least 1 litre of water, a whistle, self adhesive bandage and a foil blanket. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
