The Maverick Ochil Hills Trail 2026
The Maverick Ochil Hills Trail is a one-day trail running event based at Airthrey Castle, University of Stirling, Stirling, Scotland (FK9 4LA). Routes leave the campus and run through Hermitage Wood and up Black Hill, with open undulating trails and views towards the Ochil Hills.
The event offers five route options:
- Ultra: 50 km, +1914 m elevation
- Marathon: 42 km, +1352 m elevation
- Half Marathon: 27 km, +987 m elevation
- Middle: 10 km, +345 m elevation
- Short: 5 km, +161 m elevation
Outposts provide top-up food and drink including fruit, cake, crisps, gels and electrolyte drinks. There will not be pre-filled water cups at outposts; participants should carry a reusable cup or bottle for self-serve water stations. Organisers aim to keep the event plastic free and encourage reusable cups.
For safety, Ultra and Marathon entrants face a 9 hour overall cut-off. Organisers will publish detailed outpost cut-off times. Mandatory kit for Ultra and Marathon includes a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, at least 1 litre of water, 800 calories of food, a foil blanket, whistle, self-adhesive bandage and GPX of the route. Runners of any route are strongly recommended to carry water, a raincoat, a foil blanket and a mobile phone.
Dogs are not permitted due to likely high temperatures. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Transfers between events are allowed once and must be completed by the Monday before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
