The Maverick Ochil Hills Trail 2026
The event is a trail running meeting at Airthrey Castle, University of Stirling, Stirling, Scotland (FK9 4LA). Routes run out through Hermitage Wood and Black Hill onto undulating open trails with views towards the Ochil Hills. Longer routes enter the Ochil Hills and include climbs and fell trails.
Five routes are offered:
- Ultra: 50 km, elevation +1914 m, €105.81
- Marathon: 42 km, elevation +1352 m, €93.92
- Half Marathon: 27 km, elevation +987 m, €58.26
- Middle: 10 km, elevation +345 m, €46.37
- Short: 5 km, elevation +161 m, €29.72
Outposts will supply a range of snacks, gels and electrolyte drinks; there will be no pre-filled water cups. Runners are asked to carry a reusable cup or bottle and to use self-serve water barrels. Organisers are working with local partners including the University, Mountain Rescue and Future Forest Charity.
Safety measures include cut-off limits for the Ultra and Marathon of nine hours. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Headphones are strongly discouraged. For longer routes, a set of mandatory kit is required including a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, foil blanket, minimum 1 litre water and specified calorie and first aid items.
