The Maverick Ochil Hills Trail 2026
The Maverick Ochil Hills Trail is a trail running event located in Stirling, Scotland. The event starts at the University of Stirling and takes runners through Hermitage Wood and Black Hill. The course consists of undulating open trails with views of the Ochil Hills. Participants on the longer routes will encounter more technical climbs and fell trails as they enter the hills.
The event features five distinct distances:
- Ultra: 50 km with 1914 m of elevation gain.
- Marathon: 42 km with 1352 m of elevation gain.
- Half Marathon: 27 km with 987 m of elevation gain.
- Middle: 10 km with 345 m of elevation gain.
- Short: 5 km with 161 m of elevation gain.
The event is held in partnership with local organizations, including the University, Mountain Rescue, and Future Forest Charity. Due to typically high temperatures during this period, dogs are not permitted to participate. Registration opens at 07:00 at Airthrey Castle.
The race operates as a plastic-free event, meaning no pre-filled water cups are provided at outposts. Runners must bring their own reusable cups or bottles to use the self-serve water barrels. Mandatory equipment for the Ultra and Marathon distances includes a waterproof jacket, a mobile phone, a whistle, a foil blanket, and a minimum of one litre of water.
