The Maverick Ochil Hills Trail 2026
The event is a trail running meeting at Airthrey Castle, University of Stirling, Stirling, Scotland. The organiser offers five route options across forest and fell terrain, featuring undulating open trails, sections through Hermitage Wood and Black Hill, and climbs into the Ochil Hills. The event is sold out and on the day entries will not be accepted.
Distances and elevation gains:
- Ultra: 52.8 km, +2071 m elevation
- Marathon: 42 km, +1357 m elevation
- Half Marathon: 28 km, +999 m elevation
- Middle: 10 km, +362 m elevation
- Short: 5 km, +161 m elevation
Outposts and support vary by route. There are no outposts on the Short and Middle routes. The Half Marathon has two outposts at about 12.5 km and 17.5 km. The Marathon and Ultra routes have four outposts located along the course. Outposts provide sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drinks as top ups to what runners carry.
For the Ultra and Marathon routes certain kit is mandatory, including a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, minimum 1 litre of water, 800 calories of food, a bandage, whistle, foil blanket, hat or buff, a reusable cup and a GPX of the route. Cut off points apply to the Ultra and Marathon routes for safety and to allow completion within nine hours.
Event facilities include free parking, a fully marked and timed course, online results, fuel and hydration outposts, photography, food and drink, bag drop and a metal finisher medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
