The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail 2026
The Maverick Exmoor X-Trail takes place in Exmoor National Park, Devon. The event features technical terrain characterized by steep climbs, descents, and coastal paths. The routes begin at Caffyns Farm in Lynton and follow the South West coastal path, passing through the Valley of Rocks, which is home to herds of feral goats. The course also includes inland sections through forests, river paths, and waterfall areas.
Participants can choose from five different distances:
- 5 km Short route with 207 m of elevation gain.
- 15 km Middle route with 803 m of elevation gain.
- 21 km Half Marathon with 1128 m of elevation gain.
- 42 km Marathon with 2223 m of elevation gain.
- 56 km Ultra route with 2774 m of elevation gain.
The event is plastic-free, requiring runners to carry their own reusable cups or bottles for water. Outposts providing sweet and savoury snacks, gels, and electrolyte drinks are positioned along the routes, though their frequency varies by distance. Mandatory safety equipment for the Marathon and Ultra distances includes a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, 800 calories of food, one litre of water, a whistle, a foil blanket, and a GPX of the route. Limited dog entries are available for those who wish to run with a pet. Facilities at the venue include free parking, a bag drop area, and food and drink for purchase.
