The Loch Lomond Beastie Triathlon Festival 2026
The event is organised by Lomond Swimming & Triathlon Club and takes place on 25 July 2026 at Balloch Castle Country Park on the banks of Loch Lomond. The festival includes off-road triathlon and aquathon formats with on-site facilities such as changing tents, bag drop, toilets and catering. Parking in the country park is limited; designated parking is available at the National Park HQ or Lomond Shores. Triathlon Scotland officials will attend.
Race options and distances
- Beastie: Swim 750 m, cycle 17 km off-road, run 5 km.
- Wee Beastie: Swim 400 m, cycle 9 km off-road, run 3 km.
- Bikeless Beastie (Aquathon): Swim 750 m, run 5 km; this race is the 2026 Scottish Aquathon Championship and counts towards the Scottish Triathlon Series.
Rules, equipment and entry details
Mountain bikes are compulsory; drop handlebars are not permitted. A hardtail or full-suspension mountain bike with large, grippy tyres is recommended because the course can be muddy. Wetsuits are compulsory if water temperature is below 14°C and not permitted above 22°C (24.6°C for athletes aged 60+). Medals are optional for a £5 cost each. Refunds: full refund for withdrawals up to 30 May 2026, 75% refund up to 30 June 2026, no refunds after 30 June 2026. A British Triathlon Race Pass is required for non-home-nation members; costs shown for age categories. Closing dates for entries vary by race in July 2026.
