The Loch Lomond Beastie Triathlon Festival 2026
The Loch Lomond Beastie Triathlon Festival is organised by Lomond Swimming & Triathlon Club at Balloch Castle Country Park on the banks of Loch Lomond. The festival offers three off road race formats that combine open-water swimming in Loch Lomond with mountain biking and trail running. The Bikeless Beastie Aquathon will serve as the Scottish Aquathon Championship for 2026 and will count towards the Scottish Triathlon Series.
Event distances
- The Beastie: Swim 750 m; cycle 17 km off road; run 5 km.
- The Wee Beastie: Swim 400 m; cycle 9 km off road; run 3 km.
- Bikeless Beastie Aquathon: Swim 750 m; run 5 km.
Essential rules and facilities include compulsory mountain bikes for bike events, no drop handlebars in cross triathlon, and recommended grippy tyres for muddy conditions. Wetsuit use depends on water temperature: compulsory below 14°C and not permitted above 22°C (24.6°C for athletes aged 60 or older). Parking within the country park is limited; designated parking is available at the National Park HQ or Lomond Shores. On-site facilities listed by the organiser include changing tents, a bag drop, toilets, and catering, with no shower facilities. Medals are optional at a cost of £5 each. Withdrawals qualify for refunds according to published deadlines: full refund up to 30 May 2026, 75 percent up to 30 June 2026, and no refunds after 30 June 2026.
